TCE Fate and Transport

TCE Natural Attenuation Review

Personnel in this project conducted background research activities that assessed the likelihood of naturally-occurring biological and geochemical trichloroethene (TCE) degradation processes in the Regional Groundwater Aquifer underlying the PGDP.  Independent review of site and literature research activities was initially conducted by faculty and staff at the University of Kentucky.  Reviewed materials included PGDP Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) documents related to estimates of Regional Gravel Aquifer TCE degradation mechanisms.  The review indicated that the previously identified mechanisms for naturally-occurring TCE degradation were poorly understood and that sufficient data to technically support the occurrence or identification of a prevalent degradation mechanism was not available.
